How to find your tyre size in under a minute

Look at the tyre that needs replacing

Find characters in a format similar to 205/55 R16 91V. Use the damaged tyre itself because some vehicles have different front and rear sizes or optional wheels.

ImportantDo not approach a traffic-facing wheel or step into a live carriageway simply to read the size.

What the parts mean

  • 205 — nominal width in millimetres
  • 55 — sidewall profile as a percentage of width
  • R16 — radial construction and 16-inch wheel
  • 91V — load index and speed rating

Send a clear photograph

A side-on image of the complete marking is often easiest. Include extra markings such as XL, C, CP or run-flat codes and send the vehicle registration too.
