Do not make it worse

Is it safe to drive on a flat tyre?

In almost every ordinary situation, continuing on a flat tyre is unsafe and can turn repairable damage into a ruined tyre or wheel.

What happens without air support

The sidewall is trapped between road and rim, creating heat and structural damage. Steering and braking can change while the rim may strike the road.

Run-flat is a limited exception

Some run-flat tyres allow limited distance and speed only within vehicle and tyre-maker instructions. Stop if control is poor or damage is visible.

ImportantIf remaining where you are presents immediate danger, prioritise life safety and follow emergency-service directions.

Better next steps

  • Stop on firm ground away from traffic
  • Use a serviceable spare only if safe and familiar
  • Call roadside or mobile tyre help
  • Share location, registration and tyre size
