Roadside help

Roadside tyre assistance with safety first

When a tyre fails away from home, first get people away from moving traffic. Once the vehicle is safely positioned, we can assess fitting options.

Make the scene safe first

Work can take place only where the fitter is not unreasonably exposed to traffic. A service area, car park, lay-by or firm position off the carriageway is preferable.

Do not inspect the traffic-facing wheel or stand beside moving vehicles. On motorways and high-speed roads, follow the official breakdown procedure for your location.

ImportantCall 999 if the vehicle is in a live lane, there has been a collision, anyone is injured or road users face immediate danger.

Details that locate you

  • Map pin or What3words reference
  • Road, direction and nearest junction
  • Emergency area number or service station
  • Vehicle colour and registration
  • Confirmation that the vehicle is clear of traffic

Repair or replacement

A puncture still needs internal inspection. A blowout, sidewall cut, rim impact or tyre driven while flat will usually require replacement.
